I figured that the facts are depressing enough, and I should avoid talking about policy.rantingnerdhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00192899727951019414noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21595692.post-26580033440621371742010-09-10T13:15:38.232-04:002010-09-10T13:15:38.232-04:00"The thing about ocean acidification is that ..."The thing about ocean acidification is that there's no wiggle room at all for global warming denialists. We've got the data on ocean acidity. We've got the experiments on various sea life and the effects of acidity change."

So... you think facts will work?

Climate change requires an organised and international response. If not initiated by governments at least enforced by government.

This runs counter to conservative and libertarian philosophies. The tragedy of the commons is not a problem laissez-faire policies and market driven forces will prevent or fix.

Admitting that climate change exists means that there is a problem those political and economic philosophies can't solve and in an all-or-nothing belief system that means that it completely invalidates their chosen belief system. So they will fight against any case for climate change. Not based on reason or facts, just on emotion. If they believed in reason they would view economic and political systems as tools and would choose the appropriate one for the problem at hand.Kevinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00269878398153564220noreply@blogger.com
